Coinciding with an exhibition of Hayman's work at the gallery, Ampersand is pleased to offer this intimate collection of photographs by the artist titled I'll Find Another One Prettier Than You. Hayman is an artist that works within the themes of nostalgia, common symbols & memory. He lives & works in Tappan, New York, a small town located minutes outside of Manhattan & filled with the history of the American War of Independence. From his training & environment, Hayman has forged an individual visual sensibility. The photographs themselves are handcrafted gelatin silver, platinum & pigment prints that seem historically timeless, captured with a delicacy of tonality that harks back to the highest traditions of graphic art. "When viewing his photographs," Robert E. Jackson writes in the foreword, "we are captivated by a sense of stillness & timelessness. Each image, whether depicting something man-made or containing a face, exists as a still life. Flesh is mutely rendered as if the skin of some exotic fruit. Objects take on the somber persona of a timeworn visage."
