Since winning a coveted Most Promising Young Photographer award in the mid-1960s, Shinoyama has been photographing young women, mostly undressed, for a global audience. Virgin Lisa is actress Lisa Akikawa from Tokyo, who captivated Shinoyama with her virtuous looks. Lisa’s gaze is relaxed, sometimes amused, throughout this enigmatic nude series. Nearly forty years old, these images were rediscovered recently by Shinoyama, and are accompanied in this book by a contemporary message from ex-virgin Lisa herself.
